I know it, you know it; heck, I'd bet if they were being totally honest, the staff of 2K Marin would tell you they knew it too. BioShock was that rare combination of a perfectly realized world, fresh yet refined action and a narrative that left me with no real burning questions. It didn't need a sequel.
But all that has very little to do with BioShock 2 because whether it needed to be made or not, it's here now. And the surprise isn't that someone other than Irrational had the chutzpah to make a BioShock sequel. The surprise is just how worthwhile it is.
A workaround for Mass Effect 2 players that fixes extremely long load times stemming from dual core issues has been released and is available now for download.
As anticipation builds for Eidos Interactive and Avalanche Studios' forthcoming Just Cause 2, the developers have released a brand trailer entitled 'Freedom and Chaos'. This new trailer showcases a variety of environments, from snowy peaks to beautiful sunsets, and demonstrates the freedom given to the player to choose their own combat tactics in each.
Project Reality Studios has announced that the latest version of its Battlefield 2 mod Project Reality has been released and is now available for download.
The objective of the mod is to rework the original game engine developed by Dice to create a more realistic combat environment, adjusting various gameplay elements including physics, visual effects and overall gameplay formats.

If you don't feel like going through the hassle, the demo hits PlayStation Network next week. The full game hits stores on February 24, and you'll be able to read our full review on February 10. Those are a lot of dates. Keep up.
Eidos Montreal has kept Thief 4 and Deus Ex 3 under tight wraps thus far. However, in a recent interview the studio's boss Stephane D'Astous outlined their general strategy with developing the two highly-anticipated sequels.
Pre-ordered goods are always a good thing because once it gets rare, people start to get crazy and pay whatever amount to get their hands on that exclusive item. Mass Effect 2 pre-order DLC codes are one of those DLCs that people are paying so much even though the seller got it for free.
You wanted updated Fallout: New Vegas, and here you have it -- a whole freakin' trailer.
This is an instance where the trailer -- set to the tune of "Blue Moon" -- really says it all. From the looks of things, Vegas is thriving, a stark contrast to the wasteland that was Fallout 3's Washington DC. Check out the full teaser below.
Fallout: New Vegas is set for a fall 2010 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
THQ is doing really quite well of late, especially with its collection of original and promising games. It's doubtless been helped along by the Warhammer 40,000 license, with Dawn of War being a superb and popular franchise. Who can blame the publisher for believing that a Warhammer 40K MMO could last for at least seven years?
At THQ's conference call yesterday, the publisher revealed that it would be showing off 40K at E3, and that it believes the game will be its biggest money maker.
"The highest ranking revenue opportunity for us clearly is the Warhammer 40k MMO," stated THQ chief Brian Farrell. "Again, I encourage you to come by and see what we are seeing at E3 with that when we fully unveil it, but we think we are going to have a very competitive MMO.
"As you know, one of the big wins there is when you are successful with those properties, you have a long life on both revenues and cash flow, that's not just one year or two years it can go, five, six, seven years. So that's probably the biggest opportunity."
The 40K MMO is in the hands of Vigil, who proved themselves with Darksiders. It's in good hands, it doesn't tread the usual high fantasy ground, and everybody loves a little 40K. It's certainly got a better start than most wannabe MMOs, and I wish it all the best. It might be the kind of MMO I could really get into.
According to those good ol' boys as the Anonymous Sources Department, a casting call for a F.E.A.R 3 Web promo has spilled light onto the first plot details for Monolith's big shooter sequel. The details are spoileriffic, so if you believe F.E.A.R's plot could ever be ruined, look away now!
Okay, you still with us, good? If the casting call gossip is true, Paxton Fettel is making a comeback, and is "very excited about the delivery of the latest member of the family." Fettel was an antagonist in the original F.E.A.R, the son of evil psychic girl Alma. At the end of F.E.A.R 2, Alma telekinetically raped the player, becoming pregnant with (presumably) another mentally superior monster child.
According to the promo, Alma is back and thirsty for vengeance: "With her latest pregnancy and delivery, she may be ready to unleash all of her powers in a final bid for the destruction of mankind."
The Point Man, the hero from the original F.E.A.R, is also due for a return. Alma's firstborn is described as the "perfect killing machine" and "unbeatable in combat." Well, doesn't he just sound like a gas?
F.E.A.R 3 is yet to be officially announced, but it seems inevitable. It's also strongly rumored to be subtitled Project Hades. Until Monolith or Warner Bros. say anything, this is just a rumor for now ... chances are high that it's solid information, though.
The time has finally arrived! After months of teasing, Sega has officially revealed the truth behind Project Needlemouse, the long-awaited reboot for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. That truth is Sonic the Hedgehog 4!
An all-new sidescrolling adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will see the world's fastest hedgehog return to his roots in a game that's being aimed squarely at the jaded retro fan. Sonic 4 will see a reboot for the series and the first "true" Sonic sequel since Sonic 3.
The strange news here is that Sonic 4 will be episodic! Episode 1 will hit the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 this Summer! The game will have the classic spindash ability, and power-ups like the power sneakers. Online leaderboards will also be in play, and the Wii and PS3 versions will allow for some form of motion control using the Wiimote and SIXAXIS.
This is, truly, Sonic's last stand. He's coming home, and he's got one final chance to do it right this time. Good God, let this be good! Hit the jump for the first real trailer, courtesy of GameSpot.
The North American console versions of DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are saddled with an unusual multiplayer restriction: for the first month following the game's release, only those who preordered the game from GameStop will have access to the game's "Squad Rush" multiplayer mode.
The mode is an objective-based battle between two teams of four players each. Those with preorder-based access will also be able to invite their friends to play with them throughout the 30-day exclusivity period.
PC copies of Bad Company 2, which share a March 2 release date with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, have no such multiplayer restrictions, nor do any of the European SKUs launching three days later.
As is the trend with high-profile MMO launches, Star Trek Online's servers got slammed as soon as they went live. Cryptic announced that they're looking to increase capacity soon.
